Adobe removes Lightroom 1.4 upgrade

Adobe has revoked Lightroom 1.4 and Camera Raw 4.4 upgrades from the site due to an error in EXIF timestamp information being changed by the application. Adobe is recommending that those users who upgraded to revert back to Lightroom 1.3.1 and Camera Raw 4.3.1. What a mess, and crazy that they are actually changing original raw EXIF timestamps. Looks like either Adobe employees are slacking off or the competition from Apple is getting to them!

Dalai Lama Fears Blood Bath In Tibet

As protests spread across Tibet, the Dalai Lama fears a rule of terror by the Chinese government, and an imminent blood bath in Tibet.

Asked if he could stop Tibetan protesters from flouting Beijing’s deadline to surrender by midnight on Monday, the Dalai Lama, 72, replied swiftly: “I have no such power.”

He said he had received a call on Saturday from Tibet. “‘Please don’t ask us to stop,’” was the caller’s request. The Dalai Lama promised he would not, even though he said he expected the Chinese authorities to put down the protests with force.

Gravatars in WordPress 2.5

WordPress 2.5 will have built in Gravatar or Avatar support, and this tutorial explains how to use the new feature instead of the Gravatar plugin.

Fluency Admin: A WordPress Admin Theme

If you don’t fancy the default WordPress Admin Theme, then check out Fluency Admin, a cool looking new theme for WordPress admin, from web developer Dean Robinson.

Despite the huge overhaul that the WordPress admin interface has received its still not quite what I would really like. I had grown quite attached to the Tiger Admin theme by Steve Smith and when I found that it didn’t work with WP2.5 I was a little disappointed. But this gave me the opportunity to do something different, my own admin theme. Fluency is the result.

Hillary’s Bosnian Trip Not a ‘Red Phone’ Moment

Sinbad, the actor, who was with Hillary Clinton on her 1996 trip to Bosnia, has exposed her real foreign policy experience.

“I think the only ‘red-phone’ moment was: ‘Do we eat here or at the next place.’”

In her Iowa stump speech, Clinton also said, “We used to say in the White House that if a place is too dangerous, too small or too poor, send the First Lady.”

Say what? As Sinbad put it: “What kind of president would say, ‘Hey, man, I can’t go ’cause I might get shot so I’m going to send my wife…oh, and take a guitar player and a comedian with you.’”

Mississippi Mutiny: Indian Workers Treated as Slaves

Over a hundred Indian workers have revolted and walked out of a shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi against their treatment as slaves. The workers claim they were tricked into coming to the US by offers of permanent residency, and each paid between $15,000 and $20,000 for the job. Instead:

“I’ve been a guest worker all my life. I’ve never seen these kinds of conditions,” said the interpreter, “We lived 24 people to a room. And for this, the company deducted $1,050 a month from our paychecks.”

“For more than one year, hundreds of Indian workers at Signal International have been living like slaves,” said former Signal worker Sabulal Vijayan. “Today the workers are coming out to declare their freedom. This trafficking needs to end.”

The shipyard is run by Signal International. In response:

Signal called its housing complex “state of the art” and said government inspections have “found that Signal’s practices and facilities are fully compliant with the law.”

Stop the cheerleader, save the world

The Irish are now refuting Hillary Clinton’s claim of having helped broker the North Ireland peace deal.

“I don’t know there was much she did apart from accompanying Bill (Clinton) going around,” David Trimble said, adding, “I don’t want to rain on the thing for her but being a cheerleader for something is slightly different from being a principal player,”

Beware G-Archiver

Coding Horror is reporting that G-Archiver, a GMail backup software, steals your GMail username and password, and emails it to the creator of the software.

John Terry, the apparent creator, hard coded his username and password to his gmail account in source code. All right, not the smartest thing in the world to do, but then I noticed that every time a user adds their account to the program to back up their data, it sends and email with their username and password to his personal email box!
