McCain admits he did not vote for Bush on O’Reilly Show

Arianna Huffingtion reports McCain’s Freudian slip on The O’Reilly Factor, admitting that he did not vote for Bush. But soon after McCain goes on to say that he did vote for Bush, both in 2000 and 2004.

Doesn’t admitting having voted for Bush, especially twice, make one look stupid! What makes people vote for these fools?!

“Misspoken” The new excuse for American politicians

A clip of Bush’s Security Adviser Stephen Hadley confusing Nepal for Tibet during an interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC. Looks like George Stephanopoulos did not know the difference either!

According to New York Times:

In his ABC interview, Mr. Hadley referred at least a half-dozen times to Nepal when he seemed clearly to be speaking of Tibet. A White House spokesman later confirmed that Mr. Hadley had misspoken.

Jhumpa Lahiri’s “Unaccustomed Earth” Reviews

SAJA forum rounds up the reviews for “Unaccustomed Earth“, Jhumpa Lahiri’s latest collection of stories

“Lahiri’s enormous gifts as a storyteller are on full display in this collection: the gorgeous, effortless prose; the characters haunted by regret, isolation, loss, and tragedies big and small; and most of all, a quiet, emerging sense of humanity.”

BBC News Site Refresh

The BBC News website has a new look—a wider, more whitespacy, and cleaner look. Looks great, and I like how they kept the layout people have come to love about the site, and worked within that layout to make it wider and cleaner.

First - we did some research asking you what you thought we should change about the site. Many of those we asked said leave it alone - don’t change a thing. But it was also clear from the feedback we got that there were others who thought the site design could do with a bit of a revamp

So our designers embarked on a mission that they have called a “site refresh” - they say it’s “like gardeners doing a bit of pruning and weeding, but not digging it up and starting from scratch” ie it’s not a fundamental redesign of everything – many of the basics stay the same, because we know they work.

Indian Marksmen Out of Bullets

Due to a shortage of ammunition for training, Indian marksmen who have qualified for the Beijing Olympics, are fed up with the Indian government and threatening boycott.

On Friday, Sethi was quoted in the local media as saying the government provided the NRAI with all ammunition for 23 years but stopped doing so two and a half years ago.

“I don’t think it will be worthwhile sending the shooters to the Olympics. The damage has been done. I will take the issue up in our next general body meeting next month,” Sethi said.

“It’s a pity that the shooters were the best medal hopes and they are treated so shabbily.”

Last of Iraqis

A blog by a 25 year old Iraqi dentist, reporting about the latest happenings in Iraq. Particularly gripping are his posts about the latest conflict between the Iraqi and Al Mahdi army

i was born and raised here but unfortunately i’m thinking that the iraqis are going to extinct so i made this blog wishing that i can make a difference or even share my greif with the whole world and give them an idea about what’s happening here from the point of view of a civilian living in the war zone not from the politicians nor people who gets their benefits from the conditions.

YouTube Stats

YouTube InsightYouTube Insight, a new feature on YouTube which will let video creators see more detailed stats about their videos. To see your stats, go to My account > Manage my Videos > Videos, Favorites, Playlists page, and click on the “About this video” button. Right now, it looks like there are just a couple of graphs, and nothing detailed like you would see on Flickr stats, for example.

uploaders can see how often their videos are viewed in different geographic regions, as well as how popular they are relative to all videos in that market over a given period of time. You can also delve deeper into the lifecycle of your videos, like how long it takes for a video to become popular, and what happens to video views as popularity peaks.

Just to pass acid3 test

Vasanth Dharmaraj raises concern that the WebKit and Opera development teams might be tweaking their code just to pass a flawed acid3 test, rather than focusing on the standard itself.

Passing the test does not mean that the browser has implemented the standards completely and correctly.

This is like the difference between studying to pass the test in class and studying to gain knowledge.

Qik stream video from your phone

qik
If you have a compatible Nokia and a data plan, then Qik is the next big thing you have been waiting for. It will allow you to stream video live from your phone to the web or any device. This is wicked stuff! Qik is currently in an invitation only alpha mode. See Review

Qikker n. A streamer of Qiks!

Qik founders: Bhaskar Roy and Ramu Sunkara

Invariably, a new user doing their first live stream will get a live text message from a viewer and be astonished. It’s just such an amazing thing to interact in realtime with someone who is watching what you’re shooting right then.

But the first thing that many of them then ask is “how do I reply?!”. It always brings a smile to my face as I type “you already are — just talk! we can hear you :)”.
